About Us - Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What can you tell me about your employment and career services?

The services that you would be interested in will depend on where you are in the process; that is, you may not be sure what you want to do and need some help figuring it out OR you may be well along in the process and just need some help finding the right job OR you may be somewhere in the middle. In any case, we provide career counseling services for those who aren't clear about their career direction or who need their job search skills honed, and we provide resume referral services for those individuals who know what they want and have registered their resume with us. With the latter, we will add your resume to our database and, as positions become available, forward appropriate resumes to employers.

  2. How much do these services cost?

That depends on which level of service you choose. There are no fees for registering your resume with us. Our clients are employers who are looking for people with specific skills to fill positions within their companies. They pay us a fee for finding them the right person. We do, however, charge an hourly fee to individuals for career counseling and Myers-Briggs Assessment.

  4. Do you write resumes for people?

Not really. We will assist you in developing your resume; e.g., what to include/exclude, edit, format and layout; but we don't actually write or type resumes for people. The thought process for developing a resume is an important component of the career planning and counseling that you will receive when you work with us.

  5. What areas of employment do you specialize in?
  6. We don't specialize in any specific area. As you will notice if you click onto our job-listing page, we have openings in many disciplines. Most of our clients are seeking people who are experienced. Very few of our listings would be characterized as "entry" level.

  7. Should I send you my resume even though there are currently no openings for which I would be a candidate?
  8. Yes. We typically scan all resumes into an electronically searchable database and keep such resumes on file for at least one year. As new openings develop, we look through our database for suitable candidates. Our listing of jobs is always changing…so it is a good idea to have your resume on file with us.

  9. Do you fill positions outside of Vermont?
  10. Yes. Although most of our recruiting is for employers with positions to fill in Vermont, we have many positions in other states as well.

  11. What is your success rate for finding jobs for people?
  12. Actually, we generally don't find jobs for people. We find people for jobs. Since our clients are the employers, they are the focus of our search activity.

  13. How do you find qualified candidates?
  14. We do a lot of national as well as regional advertising and networking. We have a strong presence on "the web" and also within the region…as we have been in business for more than 15 years and are well known to regional employers and job seekers. Also, we are frequently contacted by out-of-state job seekers who are looking for a move to Vermont.

  15. What is the process for applying for a job?
  16. Just send us your resume. It's very helpful if you let us know approximately what compensation level you're looking for. It's also helpful for us to know your geographic preference and your tolerance for travel on the job as well as travel to/from the job.

  17. What is the best way to forward a resume to you?
  18. Ideally, we would like the resume to be sent via e-mail as an attachment or sent as text. Faxing it to (802) 862-7401 or mailing it to 431 Pine Street, Burlington, VT 05401 are other options. See submit resume.

  19. Do I have to come in for an interview?
  20. Not necessarily, many times because of distance it is not always feasible. Most of the time the interview can be conducted over the telephone.

  21. How often do you update your job listing?
Constantly. As we receive new listings or fill positions we make the necessary changes to our job listing. It is a good idea to check it at least once a week.
